Filmmaking

I first became interested in cameras as a young kid, almost certainly after seeing the film Short Circuit and deciding (utterly naively) that I wanted to build a robot which could see. (I didn't get anywhere near succeeding, of course (I was only 10)... I think I got as far as bolting a plywood box onto the top of my remote control car and reading about video decoders in Mapin). Around my mid-teens, my family bought a Hi8 camera which I basically stole to make videos at school which mostly consisted of me and my friends messing around. I then spent most of my gap-year working on short films and music videos in London. During my BSc at UCL, I was president of the film society and, shortly after starting my first (unfinished) PhD at UCL I and 3 old school friends started Focus Point Films, a film production company. After leaving my first PhD, I became a sole trader operating under the trading name "Jack Kelly Productions". The menu on the left lists some of the films I made while I was a filmmaker.

Some of the last projects I did:

  • Co-Writing, producing, filming and editing a short film for the environmental social networking website Project Dirt
